We're Not in Paso Anymore....

In the pastoral Shenandoah Valley, at the foot of the Sierras, is Amador County wine country. Home to some of the top Zinfandels, let alone Barbera, that you’ll find anywhere. While cruising through the heart of the valley, you might be surprised at what you see. No, you’re not in Paso Robles. But right there before your eyes, you see a sign welcoming you in to Turley Wine Cellars. That’s right…Turley! Larry Turley purchased this little piece of heaven in 2012. With the winemaking and vineyard management skills of Tegan Passalaqua (right), Larry has brought his superb and world class vino to my backyard, and to that of much of Northern California. I visited the tasting room this past weekend and enjoyed the company, and super friendly personality, of wine barista Allison Caruso (right). With the tasting room not as busy as I expected, it gave me the opportunity to not only sip some liquid gold, but to have Allison tell me a little bit about the wines, and certified organic vineyards that make up Larry and Tegan’s repertoire. If you’re not familiar with Turley and their extensive menu of vino, I would suggest you click the button above and check out their web site. There you’ll find plenty of “knowledge” and information about the Turley wines and their source vineyards.

Turley makes almost three dozen different juices for you to enjoy, which include many single vineyard designate Zinfandels and Petite Syrahs. If you have a problem finding a bottle of vino that you don't like here...try beer! OK, back to the tasting room. After taking me through the tasting menu, and a couple wines not on the list, Allison made things so pleasurably confusing…”What do I take home with me”? The thing is, there's simply not one wine that I wouldn’t take home to my closest friend, or to the finest restaurant. This too will be your dilemma. I ended taking home some Juvenile and Cobb vineyard wines. I couldn’t even wait to cellar it, and had the Cobb with pasta that night! Don't forget to visit Larry's winery and tasting room in Paso Robles if you're in the area. I'll be visiting Paso in a months or so and plan on making Turley Wine Cellars an essential stop.
