Palissandro Winery: A Little Bit of Home in Fairplay!

How many times have you heard a winery called a small family-run winery? I bet many, many times. Well, I would describe Palissandro Vineyards and Winery as just that, but it’s also a winery where you actually feel like part of the family. When I first visited Palissandro, I was enthusiastically greeted like a long lost relative. I tasted a couple wines in the tasting room, and before I knew it, I was back on the crush pad with owner and winemaker Shaun Blaylock, who always seems to be smiling! It was like going to school, but a lot more fun. Shaun was just running some Barbera fruit through the crusher. As I tasted some of the already fermenting juice in one of the tanks, Shaun proceeded to tell me about the different types of yeast he uses and why. A few minutes later Shaun’s wife, Jeannine, joined us as we toured the winery facilities. Keep in mind, I never asked for any of this great hospitality. Next they took me back into the main tasting room, but not before going over their plans for overnight lodging and a remodeled tasting room. It doesn’t get much better than that when it comes to a perfect tasting experience. Shaun’s wine menu is concise, and as fairly priced as you’ll find anywhere. You’ll find a great Barbera, a Barbera Rose’, Sangiovese, Cabernet and a Super Tuscan among others. I joined their wine club on this visit, even though my wife has been telling me to cut back on a few. I guess she’s right. After all, I would agree that twelve is a bit much. But what the heck, Palissandro is supper friendly, a great place to learn about wine, and some really good juice. The next time you’re in the Fairplay area of El Dorado County doing a little sipping, don’t forget to visit Shaun, Jeannine and the family at Palissandro Vineyards and Winery. You’ll have a great time sipping some fine vino under the oaks, while you enjoy the great view, and maybe a little Bocce ball! You'll find Palissandro Winery at 7449 Fairplay Road Somerset, California 95684 (530) 620-2063
